### My Very First Blog

My dd graduated last Sunday (from HS). I had my d-inlaws and of course Kodak moments. My arms are sooooooooo huggggggggge. I'm 5'2 and the shortest person in my clan (dh, ds, dd r all taller).

I've got a 50 year anniversay for my d-inlaws (that's darling-inlaws) Sept '06. I've read and re-read the Rice Diets Solutions pages on calculating a Weight Loss Program and figure I'll reach 1/3 of my goal by Sept. I'm a bit math challenged but still wanted 2 have a more realistic expectation of progress.

According 2 the book,

· It takes 10 calories per pound to maintain your weight.

· Walking uses about 100 calories per mile.

· 1 pound of fat = 3,500 - 3,600 calories

(So if you weigh 150 pounds and walk for 1 hour a day - 3 miles - you need about 1,800 calories to maintain your weight: 1,500 + 300).

My Weight Loss Program:

I'm 5'2" and weigh 289 lbs. (I'm usually 10 lbs heavier when weighed at the doctor's office). So, at 289 lbs, it takes 2,890 calories to maintain my weight. I want to weigh 145 ideally but 160 is nice too. What the heck, let's go for it... Let's figure Goal - 145!!!

2,890 - 1,450 = 1,440 + 300 (1 hour walk - 3 miles) = 1740

If I reduce my caloric intake by 1,440 calories a day, I would loose 149.76 pounds in a year (right). That's:

1,440 (a day) * 7 (number of days) = 10,080 (weekly total calorie reduction)

10,080 / 3500 (calories per 1 pound of fat) = 2.88

Now, here's part of the challenge, I will lose approximately 2.88 or 3 pounds per week. Since I have 144 pounds to lose, it will take me 50 weeks (144 / 2.88 = 50). Right???

Now here's my math confusion:

To accelerate the loss, I should reduce my caloric intake to 800 calories (Phase 1), which gives me a 2,090 calorie deficit), that's:

2,890 - 800 = 2,090 plus add 1 hour of walking (3 miles)

[thats 2,890 - 800 = 2,090 + 300 = 2,390]

2,390 * 7 = 16,730 (calori deficit per week)

16,730 / 3500 = 4.78 (pounds per week - weight loss)

4.78 * 4 = 19.12 (pounds per month)

19.12 * 3 = 57.36 (reduction in 3 mos)

Wow, how do I loose the 40 pounds in 1 month, as written in WW?
